Bối cảnh game kết hợp giữa khoa học giả tưởng cổ điển cùng thể loại hiện đại. Trong gameplay của trailer, người chơi sẽ khám phá hành tinh bên ngoài, chiến đấu với các loài thú hoang dã và cả con người. Theo dự kiến, The Outer Worlds sẽ ra mắt ngay trong năm 2019 trên cả 3 nền tảng phổ biến là PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4.
